Commerce Rotary Club is pleased to accept Jeff Cleveland as a new member. Cleveland is the CISD Men's Athletic Director
and Head Football Coach.  When Cleveland was chosen, Blake Cooper, CISD Superindendent (also a Rotarian) announced that Cleveland
was chosen not only for his coaching skills, but also because of his involvement in the community and the classroom. We are proud to
have him part of our club as an active member.

Did you Know:  There are over 134,000 Rotary clubs throughout the world with members active in their communities, ready to provide service above self and serve as role models for a better world. Rotary is also in China and has a long history  that dates back to 1919
when the first club in China (and the second club in Asia)was chartered in Shanghai. This first English-language club
was predominantly comprised of expatriate Americans and British, but it soon took on a very international flavor as it welcomed
other nationalities to its roster including prominent local Chinese businessmen.

Rotary flourished in China before and after the war, and ultimately spawned 33 clubs throughout the mainland up to Liberation in 1949.
After 1949 however it quickly became impossible for Rotarians to meet and so most members moved abroad and so Rotary International formally disbanded the remaining clubs in 1952. Rotary revived and now in 2016 there are currently 11 chartered Rotary clubs and 5 provisional Rotary Clubs in mainland China.

Asia is a growing area for Rotary and at the annual Rotary International convention which this year is in
Seoul , South Korea over 45,000 Rotarians from all over the world areexpected to attend.  This is the 119th annual Rotary International
convention and probably will have the largest attendance of record. Rotary International's motto this year is "Be a gift to the world"  and
Rotarians have an impact in their communities,  their countries and the world. Rotarians are proud to serve.
