Ashley Basham, an incoming senior at Commerce High School was our speaker on Wednesday July 22.
She talked about her experience attending the National Academy of Future Scientists and
Technologists (NAFST)
Congress in June held in Boston. She answered a personal invitation of  American Hero and Astronaut Buzz Aldrin
who is the Science Director of NAFST  an organization founded on the belief that talent in the field of science
and technology should be discovered and promoted as early as possible. Ashley fits that mold when she was
nominated by Susan Thurman, CISD Scholarship Director based on her outstanding academic achievement.
Kudos to Blake Cooper, Superintendent of CSID to create such an learning environment that students like
Asley moved here in search of a better high school experience. She has received numerous awards and is a member
of the National Society of High School Scholars.  We are proud to have students like Ashley at CISD. If you are
interested to read more about Ashley's experience go to the Commerce Chamber of Commerce Connection Magazine.
